Jorge Rocha is a visual artist who seeks to do his art works based in crossing interdisciplinary arts and sciences. The artistic creative process is often the result of a collaborative work developed in social environments and involving Gastronomy and Internet.
Graduated in Fine Arts at Escola Superior de Artes e Design of Caldas da Rainha since then he maintains a regular artistic activity, primarily in the field of contemporary art.
Currently he is Artistic Coordinator at PALATO, a project that combines art, gastronomy and heritage. In this context he has created the performative action Cooking in the Landscape that is held in historical and archaeological sites.
Together with other artists, he founded XEREM – cultural association, coordinating the international artists workshops such as Transient: in between albums and archives (Lisbon, 2012) and Home and Abroad (Sintra, 2010).
Besides his activities in Portuguese territory, he regularly participates in international projects, including: Directing the film “Escrito nas Telhas” (2010) in the Festival Ver e Fazer Filmes – Cineport Edition, held in Cataguases/ Brazil; participation in Sansa International Artists Workshop (2009) held in Kumasi, Ghana, within the Triangle Network; performance Administrative Procedure, presented in the Expoarte Contemporânea (2006) which was held at the National Art Museum of Maputo, Mozambique, and at CINEPORT Festival (2007) held in Joao Pessoa, Brazil.
Alongside his artistic activity, he also works in other surrounding areas, emphasis on the production of the Underconstruction, project by Monica Miranda and Paul Goodwin (2009) and the experiences in Portugal of the project NBP-New Bases for Personality (2010).
Between 2005 and 2008 he was producer at Lagos Cultural Centre in Portugal, producing among other exhibitions: Zoologia dos Trópicos: obras de Nelson Leirner e Jorge Dias; LACCOBRIGA: the Roman settlement around the Lagos Bay; Local Worlds: spaces visibilities and transcultural flows, under Allgarve08.
Favoring free software in his artistic practices, he is interested in the impact of the digital world in the creative process, focusing part of his work in creating, training and disseminating digital culture. In this field, he build a workshop of WordPress and the Free Platforms on Culture held in various locations in Portugal and in the city of Praia and Mindelo in Cape Verde.
Currently living in Amsterdam (Netherlands), he maintains professional relationships with Lagos/Algarve, city where together with other artists, producers, archaeologists and other experts, he founded RIZOMA LAB, a non profit organization based in Lagos / Algarve.
