Slave Market

The exhibition Slave Market opened in November 2010 and was Designed by me and artist Jorge Pereira.

With scientific commissioner by Rui Loureiro, executive commissioner by Elena Moran and museology by Rui Parreira, the exhibition sought to culturally explore the connecting of Lagos ‘of Discoveries’ to the history of the slave trade, taking the opportunity to disseminate historical records, reported in documental sources and enriched by testimonies recovered in archaeological excavations carried out in the Anel Verde Parking.

The exhibition aims to show the inclusion of slavery in the new economic context of the discovery voyages, from the West African coast to South Boyador, exploring the slave as commodity (embedded in everyday tasks but discarded without dignity) and the allure of the exotic in the lacobrigenses everyday life: evidenced by the taste of consuming and possessing new products and objects that travel transoceâncias allow [the XV-XVI century ceramics, from Spain, Italy, China, …].
